Titus Sparrow Park Summer Concert Series: PanNeubean Steel (Steel Drum)
Every Wednesday evening from June to August, neighbors gather on the lawn to enjoy free live music, family-friendly activities, and a vibrant community atmosphere. Check out the event details below! Pre-show activities start at 5:30pm and music starts at 6:15pm.
About the Artist
Musician and educator Jefferey Clayton founded PanNeubean Steel to share his passion for music and celebrate his Jamaican heritage.
His chosen instrument, the Steelpan—originating from Trinidad and Tobago—symbolizes resilience and freedom, and its rich history inspires Clayton’s dynamic performances.
Through PanNeubean Steel, he showcases the Steelpan’s versatility across Caribbean, Afro-Caribbean, jazz, soul, fusion, and classical styles, delivering uplifting and culturally rooted musical experiences.
Pre-Show Activity at 5:30 PM: Castle of our Skins: A Little History 2.0
Castle of our Skins presents A Little History 2.0. It’s an interactive educational recital that showcases the importance of nine moments in Black History.
As the second version of the "A Little History" collection, the program puts a set of originally composed poems and pieces for solo narrating gyil, with built-in audience interaction to showcase the historical importance of each moments.
Examples of the historical moments showcased include Benin City, Africans in the America (Mansa Abubakari II), Igbo Landing, Seneca Village, the First Black Deliverywoman (Mary Fields), Airship before Airplane (Charles F. Page), When Black People Tell our Stories (Tulsa Race Massacre), A Math Genius (Katherine Johnson), and Celebrating Juneteenth.
Pre-Show Activity at 5:30 PM: Boston Music Project Instrument Petting Zoo
Join the Boston Music Project for a kid-friendly Instrument Petting Zoo before the concert. Children of all ages can explore real musical instruments with guidance from experienced teaching artists. Come early and let the kids discover their inner musician!
Bring a Blanket & Picnic!
The lawn fills up quickly—bring a blanket or chair, grab takeout from one of the many great local restaurants nearby, and settle in for an evening of live music.
