A New Chapter at Titus Sparrow Park: Our Little Free Library Is Here!
I’m so excited to share that our very own Little Free Library is officially installed at Titus Sparrow Park! This wonderful new addition to the park was made possible by the generosity and community spirit of our neighbors, and I hope you’ll stop by to borrow a book, leave a book, and enjoy this new little hub of connection.
For those I haven’t met yet — hi! I’m Chloe, and I recently joined the Friends of Titus Sparrow Park (FTSP) Board as the new Fundraising Committee Chair. I’m a big believer in the power of local organizations to bring people together and create meaningful experiences, and I’m truly honored to help support the park we all love.
How Our Community Made it Happen
Back in October, FTSP launched a fundraising campaign to add a Little Free Library to our beloved park. Through donations from our community, we exceeded the fundraising goal of $550 and raised $720 in just a few short hours!
With those funds, we purchased a Little Free Library box, enlisted my husband Joe to build the stand, and installed the library at the main walking path intersection in the park. In true neighborly fashion, when we ran into a few installation challenges, Franco and Scott from the Southwest Corridor generously let us borrow their sledgehammer. Now, the library is open and ready for use!
Why It Matters
Our new library reflects the mission of the Friends of Titus Sparrow Park to bring neighbors together through free community events and offerings. We envision the opportunity for parents to pick up picture books after playground time, adults to exchange novels on morning walks or after a fitness class, and neighbors to share titles that represent their cultures.
The installation is especially timely as November is National Family Literacy Month. Reading together as a family deepens bonds, sparks imagination, and creates lasting memories. If you’re interested to learn more about just how important these neighborhood libraries truly are, you can read more from the Little Free Library organization here.
What’s Next
Borrow or contribute Neighbors are encouraged to take a book, leave a book, or both. The Little Free Library is designed to be a self-sustaining community resource.
Restocking and care We'll work with a small group of volunteer “librarians” from FTSP to check on the box, restock as needed using the remaining funds raised from the campaign, and make sure it stays in good shape for everyone. Huge thanks to Parkside Bookshop for being an early supporter of stocking the library!
